If a student starts a lab and then exits the lab and later on continue the lab, will this register as one attempt or two separate attempts?

Doing this will only count as one single attempt.

It is only if a student plays a simulation, and then later decides to start from the beginning that it counts as a new attempt.
As long as the student resumes/continues an existing attempt/session, then it will only count as 1 attempt.
