In order to integrate Labster to Sakai using Common Cartridge, you will need the following:

  1. The Labster LTI tool must have been enabled and configured by your institution according to instructions here
  2. Common Cartridge file
  3. Consumer Key
  4. Secret Key
  5. License Code

Step by Step Instructions

Create New Course

  1. Login to Sakai as an Administrator or Teacher
  2. Click on Worksite Setup
  3. Click on the “New” button Under Worksite Setup
  1. On Create Site screen:
  2. On Course/Section Information page:
  3. On Course Site Information page:
  4. On Course Site Tools page:
  5. On Customize tool instances page:
  6. On Course Site Access page:
  7. On Confirm Your Course Site Setup page > Review all the details and click Request Site button*

Please note that you always have to create new activities/assignments for each simulation URL, and that you cannot modify existing activities/assignments with new simulation URLs

  1. Login to Sakai as Admin or Teacher
  2. Go to Worksite Setup > click the Worksite created on "Create New Course" section
  3. On the sidebar menu, click Lessons (Note: it has book icon)
  4. Choose Add Content button

5. Click Add External Tools

  1. On Configure External Tool window:
  2. On the sidebar menu, click Lessons (Note: it has book icon)
  3. Click edit on created content

  4. On the Edit Item window:
  5. Repeat from step 1 to add more simulations
    Note: Once all the simulations are added, you may Publish the site if you have not done so.

Please also follow the same process to add the Labster Instructor and Student Dashboards.

  1. The Labster Dashboard provides further details on students' results from all attempts including those which are not completed to 100%.
  2. Launch URL:
  3. Once having added the dashboard as a content tool, then the lessons tab could look like this, where the dashboard now appears (see below picture):

Add License Code*

Please note: This step is not necessary if you have an "all course" license.

To connect the course with the correct license you need to launch one of the simulations in the course.

  1. Depending on your access, you will either see:
  • A form to paste in your license code


  • A list of license codes to select from

> Paste or Select your license code and press the Apply button.

2. You will receive a confirmation screen that your course is now fully set up and ready for the student
