Have you integrated Labster with an LMS (Blackboard, Canvas, Brightspace/D2L, Sakai, Moodle) used by your institution? Perfect!
This article will answer some of the more frequent questions teachers have had for us!
I set-up a due date in my LMS but students still can play the lab.
Even if teachers set a deadline, the link to the lab remains accessible to students.
Teachers have to remove the link from the LMS in order to prevent students from accessing the simulation after the due date. As long as the link is available, students will be able to play the simulation.
Can I extend the access to a lab for one student only?
The link is accessible in the course shell and is therefore accessible to all students enrolled in the course, teachers can’t personalize the access to a lab.
How do the grades scale down work? I don’t want to grade my lab on 100 points
The simulations are worth 100 points by default, some teachers want to see lab grades graded out of 5, 10, or 20.. in the grade book. They need to edit the lab to the value they want.
How to update lab points: If you look at one of the simulations, on the far right they will see an edit icon. When you click on it, you can just scroll down and choose how many points they want to assign to this simulation.
*The simulation has a number of questions, each worth 10 points by default. This is then translated into a percentage grade and then this percentage is multiplied by the grade points assigned by the instructor.
Let's say a student got 80 points out of 120 points (12 questions total). That amounts to 75% (their score in this simulation). In teacher’s grade book it will show the result of 75% x 5 = 3.75 points
I noticed some discrepancies between the Labster Dashboard and my LMS grade book.
If the grades between the LMS grade book and the Labster dashboard are different, it’s a settings issue. Teachers need to adjust the same settings (best or first attempt) in both tables.
Grades are not synchronized with my LMS grade book.
If some students completed a simulation but the grade is not transferred to your LMS, please reach out to Labster Support and make sure to include the following information:
1.) The name of your course
2.) The email address from a student who completed the simulation
3.) The name of the simulation the student has completed
Please do not hesitate to reach out to our support team if you have any questions or are in need of assistance.
