(Admin) Configure Labster LTI tool for Blackboard

  • You must have administrator credentials to be able to set up the LTI tool on Blackboard

  • You must have received one set of unique keys (Consumer Key and Shared Secret) from the Labster Implementation Team


We highly recommend that you add the Labster LTI tool on the global level of your Blackboard instance so that you only need to perform this step once, for all current and future courses.

Please note: the Labster LTI tool determines which grades are sent to your Blackboard gradebook. If instructors request a specific grade setup for their courses, you will need to add the Labster keys on each course level and adjust the custom grade parameter accordingly. The global and course LTI tools can use the same keys and be active at the same time, without any risk. The course-level LTI will always override the global one, when keys are entered.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Log in to Blackboard as Administrator

  2. Click on System Admin

  3. Scroll to Integrations and click on LTI Tool Providers

  4. Click on Register LTI 1.1 Provider

  5. Under Provider Domain Status, enter the following provider domain: api2.labster.com*

6. Under Provider Domain Status:

  • Provider Domain Status: Approved

7. Under Default Configuration: Set globally

  • Tool Provider Key: Your Labster Customer key

  • Tool Provider Secret: Your Labster Secret key

  • Tool Providers Custom Parameters: Read about Labster custom grade parameter

8. Institution Policies:

  • Send User Data: Send user data only over SSL

  • User Fields to Send: Select all of these boxes: Role in Course, Name, and Email Address

  • Allow User Membership Access: Yes

8. Press Submit

9. Follow the path below and make sure the 3 settings are turned ON:
System Admin > Tools and Utilities > Tools > LTI > (1) LTI - Course Tool, (2) LTI - Organization Tool, (3) LTI Link - Content Type
