Labster is excited to announce updates to our catalog that make discovering and assigning relevant content easier than ever. This article will help you understand the new updates, how they enhance your teaching, and how you can effectively integrate these resources into your courses.
What’s New?
Improved User Interface (UI): The updated UI is designed to enable seamless navigation and enhance the discovery of relevant content, making it simpler and more intuitive to find what you need for your course.
Curriculum alignment: We worked with scientific and pedagogical experts to create courses and units that align to your syllabi.
Collections: Our new Collections feature groups content according to thematic focuses, making it easier for you to find simulations that fit specific educational themes or special interests.
OpenStax Alignments: We’ve integrated OpenStax resources to add holistic value to our offerings, benefiting both administrators and educators by providing comprehensive educational materials that complement our simulations
New Catalog Structure Overview
Content is now organized into Disciplines, Courses, and Units, improving discoverability and accessibility:
Discipline Example: Chemistry (can include several courses, units, and simulations)
Course Example: Introduction to Chemistry (can include several units and simulations)
Unit Example: Introduction to Acids and Bases (can include several simulations)
Simulation Example: Acids and Bases (Principles): "Avoid falling in a lake of acid!"
This new structure allows you to quickly navigate through the catalog and find the content that is most relevant to your teaching needs.
How to Search for and Add Simulations to Your Course
From the catalog page, there are 2 ways to search for simulations
Search Bar
Use the search bar on the top right of the page to find a simulation, unit, or course by entering keywords.
Using Filters
You can also use filters to narrow down your search. Click on "Discipline" or "Education level" and select what you are looking for.
2. Add a Labster Course, a Unit, or a simulation to your course
Once you can see the results, you can:
add directly a Labster course to your course by clicking on the blue button "Add course". This will add all units from that course and all simulations within the units. (not available for all the access method)
add a Unit with the 'Add Unit' blue button. This will add all simulations within that Unit. (not available for all the access method)
Add any individual simulations you require. You can view simulations in Units or via the search functionality.
Important Note: While a simulation can appear in multiple units, it cannot be published more than once in the same Instructor course. Attempting to do so will result in an error message but the other simulations from the Unit will be added to the course.
