🆕 How to bulk add simulations to your course from your LMS

Instructors accessing Labster from their LMS (Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, Schoology & D2L) can now add several simulations simultaneously.

Updated over 5 months ago

🎉We’re thrilled to introduce the multi-add feature, a highly requested tool by instructors that will save valuable time when adding Labster simulations to LMS courses.

Previously, instructors had to add each simulation one by one, but with this new functionality, you can now add multiple simulations in a single action.

Instructors can now:

- Add an entire Course Package, Course Unit, or Collection to your LMS course with just one click.

- Select multiple simulations (like adding items to a shopping cart) and add them all at once to your LMS course.

This feature simplifies course setup, making it faster and more efficient for instructors to enhance their curriculum with Labster simulations.

FAQ

  • What LMS is concerned by this new feature?

Most of the LMS with LTI .13 integration protocol. Canvas, Blackboard, Blackboard Ultra, Moodle, Schoology, D2L/Brightspace.

Unfortunately, it is not technically possible to implement this feature with Sakai.

Please note that this is something already possible with Course Manager (Labster Platform), Google Classroom, and Canvas API.

  • Is it possible to select only a few simulations from the course, unit or collection?

So far, we only allowed to add the full content of the course, unit or collection that you have selected. If you wish to remove some simulations, we recommend adding the full course, unit, or collection to the course. Then, manually delete the unwanted simulations from the course. Alternatively, you can still add simulations individually!

  • Can I add multiple units at the same time?

Yes! You should select the first course, unit, or collection and then search for the other unit or course you wish to add.

  • Can I mix unit, simulation and course?

Yes! You should select the first content and add it to the course. Then, search for the other course, unit or collection you wish to add and add it to the course. You can repeat these steps if you'd like, interchanging between units, collections, courses, or individual simulations.

  • Why can't I add Labster Dashboard with a simulation?

Currently, it is not technically possible to add content from the Labster Dashboard. At the moment, the Labster Dashboard can only be used to view the simulation catalogue, view the instructor resources for individual simulations, and play the simulations. However, due to limitations with LTI 1.3, the simulations must be added as external tool assignments.

  • Why I don't see the option to add several simulations?

    Sakai

If you are using Sakai, this feature is not supported.

    Canvas

  • Trying to add simulation from Assignment instead of Module

❌If you are using Canvas LTI, you cannot add multiple simulations from the "Assignment" tab.

✅You need to add simulations from the "Module" instead of the Assignment. This is a limitation from Canvas. It is currently not possible to bulk add simulations from the Assignment section.

  • Trying to add from the "Module" section but it is still not working

On occasion, the Multi-Add functionality doesn’t appear in Canvas, even when accessed through the Course Modules flow. This issue is often caused by incorrect configuration of the "Link Selection" Placement in the Developer Key.

⚠️ Only the LMS Admin can perform the troubleshooting.

They should verify the "Link Selection" Placement in the Canvas LTI Developer Key used for Labster integration.

Specifically, it’s important to ensure that the "Message Type" is set to "LtiDeepLinkingRequest."
