Which web browsers are supported for playing Labster simulations?

Here are our 3 supported web browsers: Chrome, Firefox & Edge!

Updated today

Please ensure that you have installed at least one of our supported browsers and updated it to its latest version to run our simulations.

Why Updates Are Important

An updated browser ensures compatibility with the latest security and software updates required by Labster simulations. Google Chrome version 114 or later is necessary for optimal performance.

Supported Browsers

Labster is compatible with the following browsers from a supported device (we typically do not support smartphones or tablets):

Google Chrome

Labster is exclusively compatible with Google Chrome version 114 and higher. Here is how to update your Chrome browser: Update Google Chrome

Steps to Update Google Chrome

For Desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux):

  1. Open Google Chrome on your device.

  2. Go to the top-right corner, click on the three dots menu , and select Help > About Google Chrome.

  3. Chrome will automatically check for updates. If an update is available, follow the prompts to install it.

  4. Restart Chrome to complete the update process. For Chromebooks:

  5. Navigate to chrome://settings/help within your Chromebook's browser.

  6. Chrome will check for updates automatically; perform the update if it is available. For detailed instructions, visit Google’s official help guide here: Chrome Update Instructions.

Mozilla Firefox

Microsoft Edge

Unsupported Browsers

Due to certain components in our simulations, the following browsers are not currently supported:

  • Safari

  • Opera

  • Brave

Additionally, Labster simulations do not run on smartphones or tablets, even if using one of the supported browsers.

For the best experience, we recommend keeping your browser up to date and using a laptop or desktop computer when accessing Labster simulations.

Troubleshooting Outdated Chrome Versions

If your Chrome browser is outdated or you cannot update to the latest version, consider these steps:

  • On Outdated Chromebooks: If your Chromebook no longer supports updates due to hardware limitations, switch to another device, such as a desktop or iPad, if available.

  • Log Out and Log In: After updating your browser, log out of your Labster-enabled platform (e.g., Canvas, Sophia) and log back in to ensure new configurations take effect.

Alternative Solutions

If none of the above solutions work and you cannot access Labster simulations, consider the following options:

  • Switch Devices: Use another device (e.g., a family member's or school computer with an updated browser).

  • Contact Your Instructor: Explain the issue to your instructor, who may provide alternative options for accessing the required course materials.
