In this article, we will cover how to add Labster simulations to your courses. Since your institution has chosen to integrate Labster with your LMS, we'll walk you through the steps to ensure accessing Labster is simple and easy to follow for everyone.
Important note
Before you can add Labster simulations to your course, the LMS Administrator of your Institution needs to set up Labster tool. This technical step can only be perform by the IT team.
You'll need to be logged in to the LMS with either teacher or administrator access to make changes to your course and add Labster Simulation.
You need both Lasbter set-up as a tool in your LMS and an active license to access Labster
If Labster isn't set up yet, please reach out to your Labster Customer Success Manager or our Support Team for help
Labster is excited to announce updates to our catalog that make discovering and assigning relevant content easier than ever:
Step-by-step & detailed instructions
๐ป Access Labster's catalog from Schoology
Log in to your Brightspace/D2L account as an instructor
Go to the course you would like to add content to
When in the course, click on the Content button
Click on Add a module
Name your module, and press the Enter key.
Once you've created your module, click on Existing Activities. Then, click on the Labster link within the dropdown menu (it may say Labster US, UK, etc. depending on your region or how your LMS admin named it)
Once you select the tool, a pop-up window will appear within your Schoology course, where you can browse our entire catalog (including all the supplementary resources)
๐ Browse into Labster catalog and select the simulation(s) you wish to add to your course
Search for simulation, course, unit or collection
From the catalog page (content picker), you have two easy ways to search for simulations:
Search Bar: Use the search bar at the top right to find a specific simulation, unit, or course by entering keywords.
Browse: Explore available Courses or Collections to find simulations that align to your curriculum. Narrow down the selection by applying filters. Click on "Discipline" or "Education level" and select the relevant criteria.
Once you found what you're looking for, you can add one or multiple simulations to you course:
Click on the blue "Add simulation" button to select the simulation(s) that you want to include to your course. Repeat the process for each simulation that you would like to add.
You can also add a full Course Package, Course Unit or Collection by clicking on the blue "Add Unit" or "Add Content" button.
As you select multiple contents, a black banner will appear at the bottom of the screen displaying the number of simulations you've selected. When youโre done, simply click "Done" to finalize and add all selected simulations to your LMS course.
โPlease note that you cannot unselect simulations from a course, unit or collection. you can only add the full list.
โ If you want to adjust the list, you can search for the simulation one by one or delete the unwanted simulations at the end of the process (after adding them to your course, instead of editing the settings & publishing you can delete them from your course).
10. Your simulation has now been added to the module!
โ๏ธ Edit the settings of the simulations
Labster automatically synchronizes with the assignment settings in Brightspace/D2L. This means that any configurations you apply to assignments in Brightspace/D2L will also affect Labster simulations, with Brightspace/D2L overseeing these settings. Below we will mention how some assignment settings work with Labster:
To configure settings and restrictions within Brightspace/D2L, navigate to the assessments section and then access your grade book.
To adjust the settings for a specific simulation in the grade book, first, navigate to the simulation you're interested in. Then, click on the down arrow next to it and select "Edit" from the dropdown menu.
On the simulations settings and restrictions page you can use some of the settings below:
Under the properties section, you can use the following settings:
Maximum Points: Labster calculates scores based on its own criteria. When students finish a simulation, Labster sends the results as a percentage. These percentages are then converted into the point value you have set for that particular simulation in Brightspace/D2L.
Grade Scheme: Defines how grades are displayed (e.g., as percentages, letters). The default scheme is mentioned as Percentage.
Under the Restrictions section, you can use the following settings:
Start/End Dates: The "Has Start Date" setting controls when students can first access content, and the "Has End Date" setting determines when the content is no longer available, outlining the timeframe students have to work on the activity.
When you set up the simulation settings, don't forget to Save and Close. ๐
๐The simulations are now published in your course according to the settings you have selected.
Thatโs it the simulations are published! Reproduce all the steps above for all the courses you wish to add Labster Simulation
๐งโ๐ Student access, grades & progress
Access Labster
To access Labster's simulation, your students will need to login into their student account/LMS portal and go to the course you have published in Labster's simulations. They don't need an account with Labster since the simulations are accessible within your school LMS.
They will simply click on the simulation name and they can start to learn!
Monitor their grade, score and progress
Once they have played or started a simulation, you can follow their score and progress from 2 different tools:
Labster dashboard
Your LMS Gradebook (final grade only)
Labster Dashboard
You can add the Labster Dashboard as a new activity or resource following the same guidelines from above.
