Prerequisites
The LMS Admin has to register the Labster tool prior to you adding the simulations to your course;
You must have either teacher or administrator credentials to be able to edit the course.
Note: if you do not have Labster installed as an external tool, please ask your LMS administrator to contact your Labster Customer Success Manager!
Labster is excited to announce updates to our catalog that make discovering and assigning relevant content easier than ever:
Step-by-step instructions
Log in as an educator in Sakai
Go to the course you would like to add content to
Click on the Assignment section and then click Add button
Add Assignment Instructions
Scroll down until you find Submission Type and choose External tool and click on the Select External Tool Button
On the page that loads, select the Labster tool
Once you click on the placement, a pop-up window will appear within your Sakai course. You can browse our entire catalog (including all the supplementary resources) within this pop-up - click on the name of any simulation to learn more!
From the catalog page, there are 2 ways to search for simulations
Use the search bar on the top right of the page to find a simulation, unit, or course by entering keywords.
You can also use filters to narrow down your search. Click on "Discipline" or "Education level" and select what you are looking for.
Once you find the simulation you wish to add to your course, simply click on the +Add simulation button.
Don't forget to enable grading for the simulation by check-marking the Grade this assignment checkbox and assigning points to the simulation
Click Post
Sakai Assignment Settings
Availability
Open Date: The date and time from which students can start submitting their assignments. Students will not be able to play the simulation before the Open Date.
Due Date: The deadline for submissions (11/02/2023 14:45).
Accept Until: The final cut-off date for submissions (04/18/2024 14:45), after which submissions are not allowed.
Options to send reminder emails before the due date, hide the due date from students, and announce the open date in Announcements.
Assign To
Determines whether the assignment is for individual students, specific groups, or as a group assignment where one submission represents the entire group. Note that group options require pre-existing groups within the site.
Grading
Grade this assignment: Enables grading for the assignment. (If this setting is disabled, students will receive an error upon accessing the simulation)
Grade Scale: We recommend setting the grade scale as Points.
Max Points: Labster calculates scores based on its own criteria. When students finish a simulation, Labster sends the results as a percentage. These percentages are then converted into the point value you have set for that particular simulation in Sakai.
Checkmark the Send grades to the Gradebook checkbox and align the simulation with its grade book column.
Don't forget to click Post to save the assignment settings. π
