Basic Labster Troubleshooting

Whether you're dealing with software glitches, simulation frozen or anything else, here is what to do.

Updated over a week ago

Using interactive virtual simulations like Labster offers an engaging and immersive learning experience. While the platform is designed for seamless use, you may occasionally encounter technical issues or error messages that can be easily resolved.

If your simulation feels stuck or frozen, don't worry - many of these issues can be resolved with a few simple steps.

Basic Labster Troubleshooting

🌐Browser

  • Allowing Pop-Ups in Mozilla Firefox
If you're having trouble loading a simulation and notice a banner at the top of Mozilla Firefox saying that pop-ups are being blocked, follow these steps in this article.

  • If you are accessing Labster through Canvas, these browser requirements need to be checked

💻Device & Network

  • Restart your computer

  • If you are using an iPad, or Chromebook play via the app.

  • If you are using a Chromebook, try to optimize the performance here

  • Check Your Internet Connection: Labster simulations require a stable internet connection. If you're experiencing issues, check your connection and try to reconnect if necessary.

**Note: Public WiFi networks at workplaces, restaurants, or cafés often have security features that can interfere with Labster simulations:

    • Firewalls and content filters may block certain data connections that Labster needs to maintain your simulation session

    • Network restrictions can interrupt the continuous data flow required for real-time interactive simulations

    • Proxy servers commonly used on public networks may alter or delay data packets, causing synchronization issues

    • Shared bandwidth and network congestion can create unstable connections that corrupt session data

These interruptions can prevent the simulation from properly saving your progress or maintaining the active session state, potentially leading to corrupted sessions that require restarting.

For the best experience, use Labster on a private, stable network connection whenever possible. If you must use public WiFi, try to complete simulations in one sitting without interruption.

🧪Simulation

  • Start the simulation from the beginning (instead of loading a checkpoint)

  • In simulations where there is an equation or a panel, you won't see an error message. In these cases, you will need to visit the Theory tab to learn how to solve your question and continue with your simulation!
