  • Here are some tips to optimize your device

To optimize your Chromebook performance and keep it running smoothly:

Tip #1: Clean up your browser extensions!

Extensions are small software programs that run in the Chrome browser to enhance your productivity. While they can be incredibly useful, some extensions may become outdated and negatively impact performance. Unsupported extensions can cause issues such as slow loading speeds, glitches, and other technical problems.

To view and manage your installed extensions:

  1. Open the Chrome browser.

  2. Click on the three-dot menu in the upper right corner.

  3. Go to More tools > Extensions.

Review your extensions and remove any that might be causing issues.

This will show you all of the extensions that you have installed in your Chrome browser.

From here, you can remove or disable any extensions that you are not using.

Tip #2: Clean up your hard drive!

Chromebooks are designed to run in the cloud, so they typically have smaller storage drives compared to Windows or macOS devices.

When your storage drive is full, the performance of your Chromebook can be significantly affected.

This is why storing all your information on your Google Drive is highly recommended.

Tip #3: Uninstall any apps that you aren't using.

Sometimes we install apps and, after a while, forget about them and never uninstall them.

These unused apps won't significantly affect your system memory (RAM) since they aren't running, but they will occupy extra storage space on your device, which can degrade system performance.

You can follow these steps to uninstall any unused apps:

1.) Go into your settings
2.) Click on the Apps button
3.) Click on the Manage your Apps button

From here, you can view all the apps installed on your Chromebook and uninstall them

Tip #4: Update your Chromebook.

Keeping your Chromebook updated ensures you have the latest features, security updates, and performance improvements. Follow these steps to update your Chromebook:

  1. Turn on Your Chromebook:

    • Make sure your Chromebook is connected to the internet.

  2. Open Settings:

    • Click on the time in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

    • Click on the gear icon to open the Settings menu.

  3. Check for Updates:

    • In the Settings menu, click on About Chrome OS at the bottom of the left sidebar.

    • Click on Check for updates.

  4. Download and Install Updates:

    • If an update is available, it will start downloading automatically.

    • Once the update is downloaded, you will be prompted to restart your Chromebook to complete the installation.

  5. Restart Your Chromebook:

    • Click on Restart to update to reboot your Chromebook and finish the update process.

  6. Verify the Update:

    • After your Chromebook restarts, you can verify that it has been updated by going back to Settings > About Chrome OS. The version number should reflect the latest update.

By following these steps, you can ensure your Chromebook stays up-to-date and performs at its best.
